Darsfield EarthCare & Farm-Tech Foundation (Darsfoundation) at a Glance

Darsfoundation's Briefs

Darsfield EarthCare & Farm-Tech Foundation (Darsfoundation) is agriculture in Environment civil society operating in rural Ghana which provide sustained livelihood and skills development under tree planting programs for women and the youths in rural Ghana. Our goal is to train/guide farmers in regenerative environmental conservation like forest farming that can serve the trio purpose of

(1) Meeting food and export needs hence providing stable income for farmers.

(2) Regenerating/conserving Ghana’s forest that has been depleted from 29.3% to 1.9% in 60 years. And

(3) Joining global efforts in curbing global warming (climate change?) by providing carbon sinks [through carbon sequestration]. Farmers do not have to destroy forest to expand production. Also, the modular organic regenerative method that farmers are encouraged to adopt will improve quality and quantity of produce

Darsfield EarthCare & Farm-Tech Foundation (Darsfoundation) aims at alleviating poverty of women and the youths in afforestation program, slowing rural-urban drift and illegal migration through the desert into Europe, contributing to the creation of sustainable jobs. The project also aims at addressing the low level of technology and productivity in rural Ghana, low income and un-competitiveness in production, processing and distribution in agriculture. Darsfoundation also aims at addressing this deficiency through transfer of technology, thereby improving the low level of technology and productivity, as well as aiding in improving the low income levels of beneficiaries.

Global growth and poverty reduction over the next 20 years will be driven by today’s young people, yet many of them face significant difficulties in finding productive employment. Secondly, the global economy will need to create millions of jobs each month simply to keep employment rates constant in the sub- Sahara region and particularly Ghana to reduce youth unemployment, rural-urban migration and illegal dangerous migration into Sahara desert into Europe.

The focus is on rural women and the rural youths to create jobs and wealth to alleviate poverty. In Ghana the average age of farmers is about 65 years old meaning the youths finds current agric. technology unattractive because the technology currently at play is obsolete, unprofitable and unproductive. So there is the need to teach our women and youths some new technology and exposure to some new opportunities.

We provide the know-why and the know-how on environmental conservation, regenerative farming methods. We build capacity of farmers and community members on environmental stewardship and how to derive sustainable livelihood through eco-tourism. We carry out community assessment and provide workable suggestions on how to develop community members’ potentials and adapt appropriate technology that builds on existing skills.  We also create public awareness on gender and vulnerable groups, highlighting public policies and opportunities to the groups.

Sustainable & Organic farming

One Step at a Time

In general, women and youth employment programs are more successful in middle- and low-income countries than in high-income countries, possibly because they target the most vulnerable populations. These results also reinforce the finding that entrepreneurship programs are more successful in low-income countries than among high-income countries. Finally, there is strong evidence that comprehensive programs, which integrate multiple interventions, are more likely to succeed because they are better able to respond to the complex constraints facing young people in low-income countries.

Activities:

  1. Prepare simple guideline and supervise the infrastructure design; a functional space in a controlled environment where it is possible to manage the CO2 levels, the humidity, and the temperature of the space

  2. Organize training on mushroom, snails’.

  3. Support the production process by introducing technology that are suitable to the environment.

  4. Train farmers on recordkeeping, costing, stock control, marketing and forecasting.

  5. Develop the value chain of mushroom, snails’ and Ylang Ylang production within the context of Rural Ghana and beyond.

  6. Advise on any other marketing and promotion strategies that can contribute to their market expansion.

  7. Each community planting 150000 fruits, nitrogen fixing and fuel wood trees per community to benefit from the Ylang ylang, snails and mushroom farming.
